The Future of Peak Vacation Periods?

I've gone to Disney and the other Orlando attractions dozens of times over the past 15 years, including a few at Easter time (spring break) in the past 3 years or so. It should come as no surprise to many that the few weeks around Easter are the busiest times of the year for Disney and the Orlando area. This includes vacation home rentals as well.

During the past 2 years Disney has been so busy and the area has had so much traffic I vowed never to go to Disney during the Easter period again. For me this makes sense since I can go whenever I want anyway. To many guests it's not an option because of school schedules, etc. But for those seasoned and savvy Orlando guests, and for those who want to get the most out of their time in Orlando and Disney I can't help but wonder if the wise will make their vacation plans for months when the area is less congested.

Way back when we first discovered Orlando and Disney, October used to be an "off season" month and we loved traveling to Disney at that time. Within 5 years of that discovery October was no longer an off season month but a preferred month for the smart traveler. Vacation homes are much more booked for October than they used to be and what was once an off season month as become a "mid season" month.

At the moment the Orlando area still has 2 months of the year that are not heavily booked - May and September. I think this is mainly because of school schedules. In May many children are just finishing up school so the parents don't want to pull them out of school for vacation. The same is true for September - the kids are just starting back to school so it's not a good time to take a break for a vacation. But because the other 10 months of the year have become consistently booked, I can't help but wonder if the wise traveler will take advantage of the low periods of May and September. For adults this can be the perfect opportunity because all the kids are back in school, the attractions are far less congested, the lines not nearly as long, traffic is at a minimum, etc. But just as October eventually became a "preferred" travel month I can't help but wonder how long it will take for the same to happen to May and September?

I guess I would say if you can vacation in May or September I would recommend it. "Get it while you can"!!
